BAC Legislative Committee Meeting - February 5

The next bimonthly BAC Legislative Committee Meeting will be held February 5th at 6:30pm at the Penn Quarter Teaism, 400 8th Street NW. The meetings are typically held in the basement eating area.

Items on the agenda include: 
  1. Pursuing the bicycle commuter benefit for DC employees
  2. 2013 Legislation status (Transit Benefit Establishment Act of 2013, Used Bike sales, Bicycle Safety Act) 
  3. New items and 2014 priorities.

BAC Fiscal Year 2013-2014 Oversight Hearing Rescheduled

Due to the closing of the District Government because of snowfall March 3, this meeting has been rescheduled for March 17, 2014. The time, date and room location are subject to change.

The Fiscal Year 2013-2014 Agency Performance Oversight Hearings schedule has been released and the Committee on Transportation and the Environment, chaired by Council member Mary M. Cheh (Ward 3), has placed the D.C. Bicycle Advisory Council on the docket. This hearing gives residents an opportunity testify about bicycling in the District.

The hearing is tentatively scheduled for 11:00a 2:30p on Monday, March 3, 2014 March 17, 2014 in the Council Chamber (Room 500) in the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. Also scheduled are the Pedestrian Advisory Council and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT).

The purpose of the Performance Oversight Hearings are to allow the Council to ask questions regarding the current operations of District agencies, committees, and other government organizations. The Council looks at current fiscal year operations, which began October 1, 2013, as well as operations during the previous year.

BAC-FAC December Meeting

The BAC Facilities (BAC-FAC) committee held its bimonthly meeting Monday, December 2, 2013, to discuss several current and proposed projects in an around the District. The discussion centered around nine projects that are currently stalled. Additionally, we discussed how BAC should approach the District Department of Transportation and the National Park Service regarding completion of certain bicycling facilities.

DDOT To Host Public Meeting for the Klingle Valley Trail Project

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will host a public meeting regarding the rehabilitation of the Klingle Valley Trail and its design elements Thursday, January 16, 2014.The meeting will be held at the Cleveland Park Public Library (First Floor Auditorium), 3310 Connecticut Avenue NW, 6:00p to 8:00p. with a presentation beginning at 6:30p. BAC encourages you to attend this meeting to learn more about how bicyclists and pedestrians will access a rarely visited park.

The next bimonthly BAC meeting is Wednesday, January 8, 2014 beginning at 6pm. The meeting will take place at 441 4th Street, NW, One Judiciary Square, Room 1114, 11th floor. Please remember to bring government identification to enter the building. To get to the meeting room, please use the South lobby elevators.

BAC will discuss reports from our subcommittees and other bike-related topics including the status of bicycle facilities by the District Department of Transportation. We will also discuss BAC plans for 2014 as well as discuss Council of the District of Columbia oversight hearings, which should begin in a few weeks. 

Bicycle parking is available in front of the building please remember to also bring your bike lock.
